THE DESKTOP CONSULTANT – AN OVERVIEW
The Desktop Consultant was developed in response to a clear need for managers and staff in physical medicine to have practical resources to assist in preparation for JCAHO survey, to assist in improving productivity through reduction in paperwork and to build confidence in their ability to meet and exceed current accreditation standards.
The manual is packed with policies, procedures, evaluation and treatment forms, educational needs assessments for staff, competency statements and evaluations, orientation tools and practical suggestions for improving documentation and compliance.
Many of these tools have been used by departments in our consulting practice that are in hospitals that have received commendation or in departments that have received no Type I recommendations related to physical medicine.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Angela M. Phillips, PT is the owner of Images, an educational and consulting firm that specializes in providing education and management support for rehab departments. She has over 20 years experience as a therapist, manager and educator, including extensive experience in continuing education courses for clinical practice and management. Ms. Phillips has participated in many JCAHO surveys including surveys under "early survey" option. Many of the tools presented have been used in facilities that have achieved JCAHO Commendation.
Ms. Phillips has a Bachelor of Science degree in Behavioral Biology and Graduate Certification in Physical Therapy from the University of Pennsylvania School of Allied Health Professions. She is currently CEO in a Long Term Acute Care (LTAC) hospital.
Ms. Phillips has an extensive background as a speaker on JCAHO Accreditation, quality improvement, customer service and documentation requirements. Her lectures include a variety of "hands on" activities involving participants in designing methods of meeting the standards.
