BON SECOURS COTTAGE HEALTH SERVICES, Grosse Pointe, Michigan 1998 - Present
A joint venture community health organization created 9-1-98. BSCHS now contains two hospitals with over 350 licensed beds, seven primary care outpatient sites, four diagnostic centers, three pharmacies, three distinct outpatient rehabilitation clinics, home care and durable medical equipment companies.
Administrator for Rehabilitation Services Responsible for all components of the Rehabilitation Services product line including clinical, operational, financial, risk management, quality assessment, process improvement, policies & procedures, medical staff and rehab employee issues. Participates regularly as a member of the executive management team with respective to leadership, regulatory compliance, strategic planning, overall operations, diversity, corporate compliance and financial issues.
Business units/responsibilities include a 24 bed PPS excluded Rehab Unit, 2 on site outpatient rehab clinics, 3 off site outpatient rehab clinics and CHAMP - Cottage Hospital Athletic Medicine Program. Direct activities of 110 plus professional and support staff with gross annual revenues of $20 million projected for FY 1999.
HENRY FORD COTTAGE HOSPITAL, Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan 1988 - 1998
A 175 bed community hospital with outpatient clinics within the Henry Ford Health System.
Administrator for Rehabilitation Services Function as a corporate officer for the hospital with 24 hour/day responsibilities with respect to risk management, quality assessment, process improvement, policies & procedures, medical staff and hospital staff issues. Executive management committee member with all associated responsibilities including representing the hospital in Court, strategic planning, compliance to the Mission & Vision, etc.
Key contact person/participant on numerous legislative issues. In 1994, facilitated HFHS response to HCFA on rule changes for PPS inpatient rehab units. In 1997, active contributor to successfully challenging Executive Order 13-1997 which abolished the PT Board of Licensure. Executive Order rescinded within 60 day time frame.
Manage all operational, financial and quality aspects for the Rehabilitation Services Product Line. Direct activities of 80 plus professional and support staff with gross annual revenues of $16.5 million for services in 1997.
Administrative responsibility for the following areas: Rehab Nursing Three Physical Therapy Satellite Clinics Athletic Medicine Occupational Therapy Speech Pathology & Audiology Recreational Therapy Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Rehab Social Work
Opened the Rehab Unit with 16 beds in 1988, expanding to 24 beds in 1994; earned and maintained the Unit's exclusion from Medicare Prospective Payer System. Recruit and retain quality therapists, nurses and social workers; experienced success during challenging market conditions. Negotiated contractual arrangements with private physicians and the Henry Ford Medical Group to ensure quality medical care prevails. Planned, designed and oversaw construction of three clinics, all completed within budget. Established Henry Ford Cottage Hospital as a clinical provider site for the North American Institute of Orthopaedic Manual Therapy.
OAKWOOD HOSPITAL, Dearborn, Michigan 1983 - 1988
A tertiary hospital with 615 beds and multiple ambulatory services. Director - Department of Physical Therapy 1985 - 1988 Assistant Director/Acting Director - Department of Physical Therapy 1983 - 1985 Directed all operational, financial and quality aspects for the Physical Therapy Department. Supervised 20 employees in the PT Department with gross annual revenues of $3 million.
Established/expanded the clinical education program for the PT department with multiple Universities. Maintained continuous growth of clinical services; meeting or exceeding budgeted revenues. Served on hospital wide committees focusing on quality assurance, clinical excellence, patient and family education. Developed a research project for wound regeneration with Wayne State University and Johnson & Johnson Corporation.
HENRY FORD HOSPITAL, Detroit, Michigan 1977 - 1983
An 1,100 bed tertiary hospital with ambulatory services. Supervisor/ Team Leader - Department of Physical Therapy 1979 - 1983 Provided outpatient services for primarily orthopedic, neurology and trauma patients. Supervised small clinical staff. Served as an active clinical instructor for physical therapy students. Acted as clinical mentor for the first PT exchange program between HFH and the Rehab Institute of Michigan. Provided inservices for departments within HFH including the Department of Orthopedics. Staff Physical Therapist - Department of Physical Therapy 1977 - 1979 Delivered physical therapy treatments for a wide variety of patients including cardiac, pulmonary, acute medical and post surgical (orthopedic, neurosurgical, vascular surgery, trauma, etc.)
