 Upon completion of the session on program development, each participant will be able to:

1. Describe the five most difficult aspects of managing rehab in a managed care environment.
2. Recognize and analyze challenges and opportunities for rehab managers in managed care.
3. Develop a personal plan of action to enhance their managed care effectiveness.

This presentation is designed to examine the most challenging aspects and critical components of managing in a managed care environment for managers of rehabilitation programs. This session is available in a keynote or workshop format - up to two hours in length. All program materials are professionally developed and illustrated to allow maximal carryover for the participants when they return to work.

This workshop will benefit novice and experienced managers and staff and staff in any of the rehab disciplines.

• Welcome and Overview
• Challenge 1: Handling the schizophrenia of an environment caught between cost/fee based reimbursement and prospective/fixed reimbursement.
• Challenge 2: Determining when clinical care is finished.
• Challenge 3: Disproving the null rehabilitation hypothesis.
• Challenge 4: Handling the shift from national and regional decision making to local decision making.
• Challenge 5: Developing systems to identify competence. Becoming intolerant to incompetence.
• Developing a specific action plan for each challenge.
• Course evaluation and feedback.
